Benchmarking:
Provide consulting services and project coordination related to a confidential assessment and bench marking of alternative suppliers to provide turn-key PCB design, manufacturing, assembly and testing services (SMT & THT).
Project Results: Client stayed with existing sources Sourcing & Evaluations: SJB provided interim program (supply chain) management for a automotive aftermarket components program. SJB’s responsibilities included supplier evaluations and sourcing, close interfacing with the clients product, manufacturing engineering staffs and quality personnel to develop standards for the program.SJB’s background in product design and manufacturing allowed for close collaborations between all disciplines. Project Results: Capital tooling cost reductions Added benefit for the client – because of the evaluation methods used, some of the suppliers were able to transition to certified production suppliers. Supplier Management & Re-sourcing : A key supplier (injection molder) for a automotive client was experiencing tough financial and operational problems. The supplier was having issues with late deliveries, quality & raw material shortages resulting in restricting their ability to meet regular production schedules. SJB was called in to effectively manage the supplier (on their site) to ensure delivery on critical components. Working with the injection molder’s UAW staff the late deliveries were reduced, quality improved and a bank of key parts built. In parallel, a plan was developed and finalized to support the re-sourcing of the components being manufactured by this supplier As it became evident that the tooling would be relocated, SJB provided the plan and project management for the actual physical move. Program results: No disruptions to the client’s customers. Relocated over 35 production, service and prototype tools, gauging and Continued the on site representation for the client until all financial issues All of the clients assets at the supplier’s location was accounted for with no Advanced Manufacturing Material Processes: Confidential assessment of active applied research programs in "Advanced Manufacturing Material Processes" (Co-injection of Metals, Induction Carbonizing, Metal Injection Molding). SJB provide the coordination and logistics necessary for timely, cost effective and confidential evaluations of promising technologies. These quick “desk top” studies were used by the client to determine the effectiveness in spending for stand alone projects. The project deliverables were divide into three phases; Phase 1 * Identify and validate possible technology partners for the client * Identify promising emerging * Identify the next level of project gateway Phase 2 Do these results merit a stand along project ? Will the technology, material and / or process reduce cost and optimize production methods and/or improve product performance as related to cost? Phase 3 Identify and assist in establishing long term technology partners for the client or to bring the technology in-house. Confidential Manufacturing Feasibility Study for a Injection Molding Facility For this project our client relied on SJB’s core expertise in; A) Industrial Technology Assessment and Transfer SJB worked through the clients needs to provide an overview of the state of the art on: Production Equipment, Process Control Equipment and Process Support to assist in defining which production process to developed. B) Facility Operations/Infrastructure Support Process Flow/ Material Handling: Provide block diagrams on process flows Facility Layout Requirements: Provide layouts showing typical space requirements Environmental Concerns: Identify the common environmental concerns Results - Through the use of SJB our client was able to identify and evaluate key technologies and suppliers, without alerting their competitors. SJB's interdisciplinary approach allowed for the completion of the project on a tight time line with little adverse disruption of existing projects and other resources. Project Management: Build out and relocation of 250 + personnel, electro/mechanical production lines and data/telecom Infrastructure. Development of written construction specifications for chemical, x-ray, software development and other testing laboratories. Provided project schedules and oversight of those schedules. This eighteen-month project was completed successfully in one weekend with production stopped at the end of shift Thursday and resuming on the following Monday afternoon.
